Monifieth beat Grove 3-1 in the U14 Urquhart Trophy Final (sponsored by DSA). Grove went in front from the spot but Monifieth equalised near halftime. In the local derby atmosphere Monifieth scored twice in the second half to win the cup.
St.John's beat Baldragon 3-2 in the U16 Robert Caira Memorial Trophy Final (sponsored by DSA). St.John's took the lead right on halftime and increased their advantage with two well-taken goals. Just as in the Dundee United Cup Final earlier in the month Baldragon started their fightback with two goals and nearly made it in the last minute - everybody was up in the St.John's half, the Baldragon keeper took the ball from near the centre-spot and launched a superb 45-yard shot which would have dropped under the bar if the St.John's keeper had not tipped it over for a corner. Once the resulting corner was cleared, the final whistle blew so St.John's had held on to their 3-2 lead and avoided penalties.
Stephen Wright, head of the DFC Academy, and John Burke of DSA presented the medals to both teams and the Caira Trophy to St.John's to bring the cup finals to a close. Thanks to all the spectators who came to Whitton for the finals in June.

Grove beat St.Paul's 4-3 on penalties after a 4-4 draw in the Arab Trust U15 Champions League to win the title. The last game turned into a decider which could go to penalties at Baldragon and a large crowd gathered to watch an end-to-end classic. St.Paul's went ahead but Grove hit back with three goals by the break to lead 3-1. An early second-half goal for St.Paul's showed the game was not over but Grove scored again to go 4-2 up. Once again St.Paul's pulled it back to trail by one then finally levelled at 4-4 before the 80 minutes were up.
St.Paul's hit the post with the first penalty in the shoot-out but saved the first Grove penalty so 0-0 to start with. Both teams scored the next one (1-1) but the third St.Paul's kick was saved while Grove scored (1-2). The fourth penalty for both was scored (2-3), St.Paul's scored their last kick to put the pressure on Grove but they netted to end the game (3-4 pens) and celebrated winning the championship shield.

Fintry won the Banks Trophy 5-a-sides, beating Ardler/St.Fergus 1-0 in the final. A cloudy afternoon at Rowantree with occasional raindrops started late when one team went to the wrong venue, so the revamped programme went well till there was a fire alarm - the school emptied out onto the north side of the pitch while the fire engine arrived. Play continued for the nine teams soon after once the Rowantree pupils could leave the pitch. In a season where we have had a few "first-ever" calls, the inaugural Fire & Rescue Service interruption of the Banks 5-a-sides must be up there - well done to all the staff and pupils at Rowantree PS for the calm way they dealt with the unusual event.

Grove beat Monifieth 2-1 in the Senior Girls George Soutar Memorial Cup Final (sponsored by Showcase the Street). 0-0 at halftime, Grove went ahead in the second half but Monifieth equalised. Grove scored a late winner to retain the cup which was presented by Showcase the Street.
St.John's beat Morgan 4-2 in the U15 Senior Sports Cup Final (sponsored by DSA). In an even game St.John's were just a bit more clinical in their finishing. Morgan hit the post and bar but St.John's led 1-0 at the break. Morgan levelled early in the second half from the penalty spot but in the last quarter St.John's went up a gear to score three goals. Morgan fought hard to the end and pulled one back with time almost up. In the light rain at the end of another busy night the players were presented their medals by Stephen Wright, head of the DFC Academy, then St.John's received the cup. Some photos to come.

St.Pius beat Ardler/St.Fergus 7-2 in the Angus Trophy Centre Small Schools Cup Final. League champions St.Pius started with three quick goals so Ardler/St.Fergus fought hard and scored a couple of goals towards the end of the match. John Brown of Evening Telegraph fame presented the medals and the cup.
Clepington beat Craigiebarns 2-0 in the Primary Girls Cup Final. Two very good teams took part in the inaugural Primary Girls Final in the middle game at Elliot Road. Clepington scored in the opening minute but there was no sign of it being a Women against Girls game as both sides attacked and went for goal all the time. The Clepington keeper started off kicking goal attempts clear but then showed she could punch shots away and use her hands to good effect as Craigiebarns sought an equaliser. While Craigiebarns hit the left post in the first half it had probably just stopped shaking by the time Clepington hit the same spot in the second half. The Craigiebarns keeper made good saves as well to stop Clepington going further ahead. At the top end of the pitch the Clepington keeper wore shades in the second half as the good weather continued, an excellent first. With about half a minute to go a Clepington solo down the left managed to outwit the Craigiebarns defence and the ball hit the net to clinch the win for Clepington. One of the closest and most emtertaining finals we had at Elliot Road over the three days.
St.Francis beat Barnhill 3-1 in the Burgess Cup Final. St.Francis led 2-0 by the break and scored a third in the second half before Barnhill pulled one back. Barnhill played well but St.Francis who shared the Section C championship with Birkhill continued their excellent form to win every cup they played in. St.Francis have been a joy to watch all season.
St.Paul's and Monifieth drew 2-2 in the DSA U14 Champions League.

Grove beat St.Paul's 7-3 in the U17 George Grant Memorial Trophy Final (sponsored by DSA). The first half was a goalfest with Grove scoring two, St.Paul's quickly replying with two to equalise before Grove scored three to lead 5-2 at the break. The second half was less hectic but still had goals to keep the fans happy before John Burke of DSA completed a busy evening with the presentation of the medals and the trophy to Grove. In the second half Braeview's Callie Bowman broke through the middle twice to complete her hat-trick then Grove fought back from 3-1 down to level at 3-3 with a penalty. The hat-trick turned to four as Braeview went 4-3 up before another Braeview striker got on the scoresheet for 5-3. Fergus Storrier of Showcase the Street presented the medals to the players and the cup to Braeview in front of a good crowd who enjoyed the afternoon sunshine.

St.Pius beat Our Lady's 6-1 in the DSA Arab Trust Small Schools League to win the league. St.Pius scored first but Our Lady's who hit the post four times in the match were level at 1-1 by the break. St.Pius regained the lead from a free kick in the second half and added four more in the last ten minutes to wrap up the title. Credit to Our Lady's who fought them hard all the way and forced some great saves from the keeper of the worthy champions. Photos to come.
Dundee beat Forth Valley 8-7 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the Senior Girls National Trophy Final at Stenhousemuir. Dundee started slowly, suffering a slight injury in the first ten seconds, and giving Forth Valley midfielders too much room to operate. Forth Valley led 1-0 at halftime but Dundee improved for the second half. A Forth Valley handball in the area gave Dundee a penalty which Georgie Robb scored for 1-1. Midway through the half Forth Valley were given a softish free kick on the left but Dundee could not clear so it was 2-1 down and the fight was on. Not long from the end Callie Bowman raced onto a ball down the left and outpaced the defenders to strike home for 2-2. Great scenes of celebration and relief in front of the Dundee support.
Soon the game was over and it was on to penalties. Forth Valley took the first kick and Zoe Maclean stretched down to make a great save then Dundee scored, 0-1. However out of the first five for each team Dundee also missed one by hitting the post so it was 4-4. Keeper Zoe Maclean had some great attempts to stop further penalties but they were still all being converted until it was 7-7. Then Forth Valley took the 17th penalty and hit the bar, so Layla Dailly stepped up for penalty no. 18 and scored to kick the celebrations off. Thanks to all the parents and friends who travelled through to Stenhousemuir to create a good atmosphere and cheer the girls on. Once the SSFA President presented the medals to the teams and the shield to Zoe Maclean there was plenty of time to cool off with the sun going down, take photos on the pitch and blether about the game, before the Domino's effect on a happy bus home for about midnight.

Blackness beat Ancrum Road 6-2 in the Linton Cup Final. Blackness took the lead twice in the first half but Ancrum Road equalised both times a minute later with superb goals. Blackness scored early in the second half and moved further ahead although Ancrum Road came close on several occasion. Blackness won the Linton Cup for the first time, their first trophy since 1951. Oliver Thomson (Blackness) won the Ross Kirk Man of the Match Award.
St.Francis beat Birkhill 2-1 in the Junior Sports Cup Final. Just like the recent league game this cup final was a superb match. Birkhill led 1-0 at halftime through a deflected shot but St.Francis fought back well in the second half to make it 1-1. With the possibility of golden-goal extra time looming St.Francis headed a diagonal ball into the net, out of reach of the excellent Birkhill keeper, so St.Francis won the Junior Sports Cup for the first time. Kodi Usher (St.Francis) won the Bill Ferrier Memorial Trophy as the Man of the Match.

St.Ninian's opened the scoring but St.Pius came back with three goals, only for St.Ninian's to strike twice and bring an exciting first half to a close at 3-3. The second half was even for ten minutes then St.Pius scored three in quick succession to take control. St.Pius added a 7th later on but St.Ninian's fought to the end and netted from the penalty spot to finish the scoring. Despite the high number of goals both keepers made some great saves to entertain a good crowd at Whitton.

St.John’s HS beat Linlithgow Ac. 3-1 on penalties after a 2-2 draw in the U15 Shield Final at East Fife. On a sunny night in Methil there was a great atmosphere with the Linlithgow drummer keeping the noise going from the north end of the stand with his colleagues singing and chanting throughout. St.John's scored the only goal of the first half from a corner on the right headed in. The second half started with Linlithgow pressure and the equaliser was a replica of the St.John's goal. Linlithgow continued to press and were soon 2-1 ahead. St.John's came back into the game and a low shot to the keeper's left levelled the score at 2-2. With time almost up St.John's hunted for the winner and there was a stramash in front of the Linlithgow goal - St.John's had two or three attempts blocked by Linlithgow defenders and the action was still going on when the referee surprisingly decided that enough was enough and blew the final whistle. Any St.John's disappointment at this soon cleared when the penalty shoot-out started. St.John's scored their first and saved Linlithgow's first. Neither team scored with their second kicks, so still 1-0. St.John's keeper had had enough of saving so he took the St.John's third to score then saved again, so 2-0. St.John's fourth kick could have won it but Linlithgow saved then scored theirs, so 2-1. St.John's needed to score their 5th kick to finish the game and the ball hit the net to start the celebrations.

Paisley & District beat Dundee 5-4 on penalties after a 3-3 draw in the U15 National Trophy Semifinal. An extremely close game at Renfrew against a good P&D team but with some unusual refereeing. P&D opened the scoring but Brayden Bruce scored direct from a free kick to level at 1-1. In the second half a cross from the right into the Dundee area was handled by a P&D striker but the referee awarded a penalty to P&D - the referee soon found himself surrounded by Dundee defenders who knew they were being cheated, issued a few cards then P&D scored from the spot for 2-1. A few minutes later a challenge in the P&D box was given as a penalty to Dundee which Brayden Bruce scored for 2-2. It was perhaps a soft decision but most likely the referee realised he had made a massive mistake with his decision on the Hand of God 2 moment (Where is VAR when you need it?) so he had to avoid a riot on his hands by giving Dundee a chance to equalise when the next debatable chance came along. P&D scored once more to go 3-2 up but Dundee kept challenging and close to the end Finlay Simpson chased a long ball to hit the net for 3-3. In the shoot-out both keepers were nowhere close to the penalties and only a Dundee penalty hit with power but onto the post and back out allowed P&D to go through to the final to play Fife whom we had beaten 5-1 at Whitton in our group in December. Photos to come.

Birkhill beat St.Pius 5-4 in the Junior Sports Cup Semifinal. In a classic game at Whitton 7s pitch St.Pius took the lead right at the start but Birkhill pressed hard to score three by the break. St.Pius fought back well early in the second half to level at 3-3 then broke away to regain the lead, 4-3. Birkhill did not give up though and soon equalised, 4-4. With about three minutes to go and extra time looking likely Birkhill scored the winner. St.Pius had a last chance when the ball hit the foot of the left post but was nowhere near crossing the line and the keeper held on to it. Birkhill will play St.Francis or Eastern in the final.
