FIRST-HALF GOAL RUSH WRAPS UP THE WIN
Thur 16 Jun - Only six days after the two teams met in the Cameron Cup Final where Downfield won 11-10 on penalties after a 1-1 draw Craigowl and Downfield faced each other again in a title decider in DFCSS Arab Trust Section B. Craigowl needed to avoid defeat and struck in the very first minute, knocking in a rebound after a shot had come back off the post, 1-0 (1m). The Owls opened up a 2-goal lead with clever attacking play, with a shot which beat the keeper at his left post, 2-0 (8m).
Downfield struggled to get into the game and Craigowl were keen to shoot from anywhere and nearly made it 3-0 midway through the half with a long-range shot dipping under the bar, forcing the keeper to palm it away for a corner. However it was not long before Craigowl netted again when a cross from the right to the far side of the box was volleyed superbly into the far corner - the best goal of the game and no chance for the keeper, 3-0 (15m). Another Craigowl effort from distance had the Downfield keeper tipping the ball over the bar, before he was picking the ball out of the net again following a low first-time finish into the bottom left corner, 4-0 (19m).
CRAIGOWL (GREEN / BLACK) v. DOWNFIELD (WHITE / PURPLE)
After this onslaught by Craigowl the Downfield boys gave themselves hope near halftime with a break down the left which ended with a Craigowl defender only able to steer the ball into his own net, 4-1 (21m).
Halftime : Craigowl 4 Downfield 1
After this onslaught by Craigowl the Downfield boys gave themselves hope near halftime with a break down the left which ended with a Craigowl defender only able to steer the ball into his own net, 4-1 (21m).
Halftime : Craigowl 4 Downfield 1
After the interval both teams tested the opposing keepers and Downfield narrowed the gap with a shot into the bottom corner, 4-2 (30m). Craigowl fought back and headed a corner down firmly at the far post but the Downfield keeper pulled off a great save to turn it away for another corner. The game continued end to end but Craigowl did not look like surrendering their lead. Only an excellent save by the Downfield keeper in the last couple of minutes stopped Craigowl going further ahead. The final whistle soon sounded, the players shook hands and Craigowl could celebrate their league title after winning all their eight games.

EASTERN EASE INTO BURGESS CUP FINAL
HIGH-SCORING SEMIFINAL AT ST.LUKE'S & ST.MATTHEW'S
Tues 17 May - Eastern eased their way into the Burgess Cup Final with a 9-5 win at St.Luke's & St.Matthew's.
As usual, any game involving St.Luke's & St.Matthew's guarantees goals - it's an unusual day if you don't get at least half a dozen goals.
This was no different, with SSLM hitting the bar in the first minute. Eastern then went up the field and opened the scoring when the keeper could only palm the ball out and the striker tapped it in, 0-1 (2m). SSLM equalised immediately with a shot from the edge of the area into the postage stamp, 1-1 (3m). Another minute, another goal, Eastern crossing from the right to force a defender into an own goal, 1-2 (4m). There was then a lull for 5 minutes without a goal though Eastern did strike the bar. Eastern took a two-goal lead when another shot was only parried and the rebound was knocked in, 1-3 (9m). SSLM pulled one back soon after with a low shot from the right across the keeper into the far corner, 2-3 (11m). Two minutes later Eastern restored their two-goal advantage with a corner on the left being headed home, 2-4 (13m). Eastern had to defend a corner and broke up the field to add another, 2-5 (17m), but SSLM fought back and hit on the break, holding off a defender to score from the edge of the box, 3-5 (19m).

SSLM (BLACK / WHITE) CELEBRATE A THIRD-MINUTE EQUALISER ................
.................. AND EASTERN (WHITE / RED) HEAD IN FROM A CORNER
Eastern moved further ahead shortly after the break with a right-foot shot which smashed into the top corner, 3-6 (28m). They nearly added another but the fierce shot produced a magnificent save from the SSLM keeper who tipped it onto the bar. Eastern were not to be denied and a rocket shot increased the lead to four goals, 3-7 (32m). After a narrow escape the Eastern defence did concede when SSLM broke free on the right and fired under the keeper, 4-7 (34m). A comeback seemed on when SSLM scored arguably the best goal of the day with a powerful long-range strike which caught the Eastern keeper off guard, perhaps with a bit of swerve, 5-7 (38m). Eastern steadied themselves and regained their composure with a run down the left followed by a shot which was too hot for the keeper, and Eastern followed up to net once more, 5-8 (40m). The game was wrapped up two minutes from time with an Eastern strike along the ground, 5-9 (48m).
So Eastern booked their place at Elliot Road in June where they will face local rivals Forthill, an exciting final in prospect. Well done to both SSLM and Eastern for an all-out attacking display, end-to-end entertainment and some terrific goals.

ST.NINIAN'S (GREEN) DIG DEEP AGAINST ST.MARY'S (SKY) IN DFCSS ARAB TRUST SECTION A
After the break St.Mary's pressed hard for another but the St.Ninian's keeper threw himself in front of several attempts, saving with his hands, body and feet to deny the sky-blues. Having survived the pressure St.Ninian's pulled a goal back, 2-3, and almost equalised but shot just wide of the post. St.Mary's were rocking for a while and made some substitutions to try to get back into the game. A slick interchange of passes carved the St.Ninian's defence wide open and St.Mary's scored again, 2-4, soon followed by a tap-in a few yards out, 2-5. Now back in their stride St.Mary's added another, 2-6, but St.Ninian's had not given up hope and scored a well-taken goal to reduce the deficit, 3-6. St.Mary's wrapped up the scoring near the end with a shot from distance which went over the keeper's head, 3-7.
There were a lot of good performances and despite the 10 goals both keepers deserve a lot of credit.

CLEPINGTON (BLUE) AND ST.JOSEPH'S (YELLOW / BLUE) IN THE JUNIOR SPORTS CUP
Despite having the most of the pressure Clepington saw their lead disappear 7 minutes after the break when St.Joseph's wiped out the deficit with an equaliser, 2-2 (32m). The best chance after that fell to Clepington but the St.Joseph's keeper saved the ball onto the bar and caught the rebound before any strikers could arrive.
With only 5 minutes left and extra time looming Clepington turned the game in their favour with a well taken goal - the ball broke down the left, a check inside and a look to see where the keeper was before a calm finish, 2-3 (65m). Any thoughts St.Joseph's had of a late fightback were dashed two minutes from the end when a ball from the right caught the keeper and a defender in two minds, the ball rolled in for an own goal to sew the game up for Clepington, 2-4 (68m).
Final score : St.Joseph's 2 Clepington 4
Clepington now play either Hillside or Forthill in the 3rd Round.

Thur 24 Mar - Spring sunshine at Gillies Park made it perfect for football, and both Barnhill and St.Luke's & St.Matthew's did their best to entertain the fans in Arab Trust DFCSS Section D.
The visitors took an early lead when the Barnhill keeper was caught out by a high ball from the right, got his hands on it but could not stop the ball rolling over the line, 0-1 (5 mins).
It was not long before the home team smashed in a superb equaliser, with a strong run through the middle finished off with a powerful shot under the keeper, 1-1 (10m).

But SSLM regained the lead four minutes later when another high ball this time from the left wing put the keeper under pressure. Perhaps he misjudged the flight of the ball as it came out of the bright sun, but SSLM were not hanging around, and when the keeper could not gather the ball properly, they stabbed the ball in on the goal line, 1-2 (14m). Plenty of action from both sides but no further goals in the first half...

A BARNHILL (YELLOW) ATTACK IN THE FIRST HALF IS CLEARED BY SSLM (STRIPES)
With Barnhill shooting downhill in the second half, it only took a minute before the game was level again. A long-range shot from Barnhill caught the SSLM keeper off guard and off balance at his right-hand post, and the ball fell over the line, 2-2 (26m). Yet again Barnhill did not have much time to enjoy their relative success, as two minutes later they were behind for the third time. SSLM produced an excellent move up the left and shot home from just inside the box, 2-3 (28m). Barnhill replied almost immediately with an attempt which shaved the outside of the right-hand post. SSLM hit back with a venomous strike from well outside the area which was heading for the left side of the goal before the Barnhill keeper dived across and turned it away for a corner, to great applause from everybody.

ST.LUKE'S & ST.MATTHEW'S (BLACK / WHITE) SCORE THEIR THIRD GOAL AT BARNHILL (YELLOW)
Midway through the half however the keeper was beaten by a piece of quick thinking by the visitors. A free kick award to SSLM on the halfway line seemed to pose no danger but the free kick was hit forcefully at head height towards the Barnhill goal where an SSLM striker nipped in front of the keeper to head the ball past him into the net, 2-4 (36m).
Barnhill fought back but again were denied by the right-hand post when a shot from the right wing bounced off the base of the post. With time running out Barnhill won a corner on the left and the deep cross was thumped home to set up an exciting finish, 3-4 (48m). Barnhill did create a couple of chances to equalise but their shots were off target, and SSLM held on for a famous victory.
Final score : Barnhill 3 St.Luke's & St.Matthew's 4
Though seven goals in a game may seem like a goalless draw to SSLM who have had 10-10 and 12-7 results in earlier games, they will be delighted with their win, particularly as nobody in the SSLM camp could remember winning against Barnhill before. Only the width of a post denied Barnhill on a couple of occasions however, so they will be keen to make amends in their next game.

SECOND HALF DANGER FOR BARNHILL FROM A ST.LUKE'S & ST.MATTHEW'S CORNER IN SECTION D
ST.CLEMENT'S IN THE ARAB TRUST DFCSS SMALL SCHOOLS LEAGUE
SS PETER & PAUL THROUGH TO JUNIOR SPORTS SEMIFINAL
THREE EXTRA TIME GOALS FOR SSPP PUT BARNHILL OUT
Wed 16 Mar - A gripping game at Gillies Park between last year's Junior Sports Cup finalists Barnhill and Section C league leaders SS Peter & Paul ... Following the heavy rain the day before the pitch was in remarkably good condition and the bright sunshine even drew out a 1st Division manager to see the game.
With a semifinal place at stake both sides got to work from the kick-off but they cancelled each other out with both keepers in excellent form. The best chance of the first half fell to the home side but Barnhill's shot was turned away for a corner by an athletic leap from the SSPP keeper. Barnhill's keeper showed quick reactions to one move which kept the score 0-0 at halftime.

SS PETER & PAUL (YELLOW / BLACK) ON THE BALL AT BARNHILL (YELLOW / GREEN with BIBS)
SS Peter & Paul set about Barnhill with a sustained spell of pressure at the start of the second half and the Barnhill keeper stopped four or five good attempts within a matter of minutes, throwing himself all over the place to block, parry, save and sometimes kick the ball away ... and when he was beaten there was a defender on hand to clear. Barnhill had one or two chances up the slope but SSPP looked the more likely to break through. However as normal time came to an end it was still scoreless.

SSPP PILE ON THE PRESSURE IN THE SECOND HALF BUT BARNHILL SURVIVE
With 50 minutes of pulsating football on the heavy pitch not producing a goal, you would have been forgiven for thinking that the 5 minutes each way extra time would not see a goal and that the tie would be decided on penalties.
SSPP proved how wrong that could be. Three minutes into the first period of extra time SSPP tussled for the ball deep in their own half out on the right touchline, won the challenge and drove forward, passed inside where the ball was quickly moved on to a forward clear of the defence - he lofted the ball over the keeper for the opening goal. The celebrations had hardly died down when SSPP went 2 up, this time a firm strike from just outside the box flying low past the keeper...cue a Cantona-style pose while the visiting fans went wild.
The game was wrapped up very early in the second period, with a midfield challenge winning the ball, then poking the ball forward to an unmarked striker who rolled the ball past the onrushing keeper and watched it trickle over the line.
Final score : Barnhill 0 SS Peter & Paul 3 aet
Man of the match was the Barnhill keeper for his second-half heroics.
As there are still 2nd Round games to be completed, it will be a while before SSPP can plan their semifinal. Next up for Barnhill is a league match with St.Luke's & St.Matthew's whose games have all been goalfests this season, so more excitement lies in store.

With two minutes left St.Mary's won a free kick on the right - St.Clement's defended the free kick well but then lost possession, St.Mary's worked the ball over to the left wing and a superb right-footed strike saw the ball fly just under the bar to level the game at 1-1, (48).

ST.CLEMENT'S (NAVY) CLEAR THEIR LINES AFTER A ST.FERGUS CORNER
But the home team were not giving up and it was not long till they struck twice in a minute to equalise - first, a pass from the right was stroked home from 5 yards out, then the keeper could not hold on to the ball on the ground, St.Fergus robbed him and rolled the ball into the empty net, 2-2. St.Fergus then had chances to take the lead, the most dangerous being a firm cross which flashed across the front of the goal but nobody could connect. Then St.Clement's had two clear chances but both shots went narrowly outside the post. With about ten minutes left St.Fergus hit a long diagonal ball from the left on the halfway line to the edge of the box on the right, a cool finish beat the keeper and St.Fergus had turned the game on its head, 3-2.

Barnhill upped the tempo in the second half, forcing Longhaugh to defend. Barnhill also managed to rattle the right-hand post in each half with ferocious shots, but the Longhaugh keeper who made some great saves did not deserve to lose any more than the four.

CRAIGOWL AND BIRKHILL ENJOY A LEAGUE GAME AFTER WINTER SHUTDOWN
Wed 9 Feb - Craigowl and Birkhill met at Charlotte Street in DFCSS Arab Trust Section B and served up a highly entertaining match to brighten a dull day. The home team started off in sparkling form and were only denied by a great display from the Birkhill keeper. A venomous Craigowl shot from the edge of the penalty area wide on the right was heading for the top corner but the keeper threw himself across the goal and tipped it over for a corner.
The Craigowl pressure eventually told and they went into the lead in the 5th minute, the shot taking a deflection to fox the keeper, 1-0 (5). Five minutes later the lead was increased when a cross from the left was tapped in at the far post, 2-0 (10). Craigowl attacked again but the keeper produced save after save to keep his team in the contest, though he had his heart in his mouth when the ball hit the left post and rolled along the line, having to dive into the mud to gather the ball.

BIRKHILL (GREEN / BLACK STRIPES) DEFEND A FREE KICK AGAINST CRAIGOWL (WHITE / GREEN)
Then Craigowl should have gone 3 up, they were clean through with the goal gaping but incredibly shot inches past the right post. Soon after Birkhill made them pay with a quick break through the middle, shooting home to halve the deficit, 2-1 (14). The Birkhill joy only lasted for a minute as the Owls regained their 2-goal advantage - the Birkhill keeper saved the first attempt but Craigowl picked up the rebound on the left and smashed it in, again with the help of a deflection, 3-1 (15). The rest of the half belonged to Birkhill who carved the Craigowl defence open on several occasions. A shot from the right wing whistled past the far post, then some brilliant defending by Craigowl stopped what seemed to be certain goals - two blocks in rapid succession a couple of yards from goal kept Birkhill out, a minute later another shot was stopped on the line, and Birkhill could only knock the rebound wide.

BIRKHILL (STRIPES) ATTACK THE ARTWORK END AT CHARLOTTE STREET v. CRAIGOWL (WHITE)
Relieved to have survived the Birkhill onslaught at the end of the first half, Craigowl were back in the game after the restart and increased their lead with a tremendous strike from a narrow angle on the left which ended in the bottom corner, 4-1 (29), probably the goal of the game. Midway through the half Birkhill hit a free kick from out on the left on the halfway line which the Craigowl keeper could not hold on to, the ball spilled loose and Birkhill were able to roll it into the net from a few yards out, 4-2 (38). Craigowl were determined not to let it slip, and replied with a sustained spell of pressure.
Only two minutes after Birkhill's goal Craigowl struck again down the left, the shot nestling in the bottom corner of the net, 5-2 (40). Within a minute it was 6-2 (41), with a close-range finish at the right-hand post. Soon with Birkhill caught upfield, the Owls broke in numbers and finished the game off, 7-2 (44).
Birkhill had the last word though just minutes from the end, catching Craigowl's defence out with a ball over the top, rolling it past the keeper and chasing it into the net in case the mud held it up, 7-3 (47). Handshakes all round at the final whistle, another game played in great spirit, a superb advert for schools' football.

Handshakes all round at the final whistle, another game played in great spirit, a superb advert for schools' football.

CLEPINGTON BEATEN AFTER TAKING TWO-GOAL LEAD AT LOCHEE PARK
Tues 8 Feb - Clepington were playing their first game of the season and took the game to league leaders SS Peter & Paul from the off.
After the recent rain the goalmouths were muddy but the rest of the pitch looked green - conditions were bound to be tiring. Clepington romped into an early lead then could have doubled their advantage but hit the bar instead. Clepington did score again with only 10 minutes on the clock, producing a somersault celebration, 0-2. The home team started to find their feet now and soon after pulled a goal back, 1-2.

There were no further goals in the first half and Clepington were probably pleased not to have conceded any more, with their goalmouth looking the stickier.

SS PETER & PAUL (YELLOW) PULL A GOAL BACK v. CLEPINGTON AT LOCHEE PARK
The game was only five minutes into the second half when it was all level, SSPP breaking through the middle from the halfway line before finishing just inside the box, 2-2. SSPP then fired a shot from the edge of the area which the Clepington keeper managed to touch onto the post and the ball ran to safety. But the SSPP players were going all out to turn the game round and two goals in a minute resulted from their pressure - first, a vicious left-foot strike from outside the box sped in at the post, 3-2, then another confident finish from close range gave SSPP a 4-2 lead with still 15 minutes to go. Clepington were unable to put on any fresh legs with a depleted squad, so tiredness was beginning to tell for the visitors. The scoring was completed in the 39th minute when a SSPP attack seemed to break down in the mud in the goalmouth but Clepington could not clear and the ball was forced in on the line in an almighty scramble, 5-2. Clepington stuck at it and tried to pull a goal back but their best chance near the end, a 20 yard lob, hit the top of the bar and bounced over for a goal kick. SSPP saw out the remaining minutes to consolidate their position at the top of the table.

ST.LUKE'S & ST.MATTHEW'S AND LONGHAUGH TURN ON THE ENTERTAINMENT
Tues 2 Nov - The local Whitfield derby turned out to be another goal bonanza as St.Luke's & St.Matthew's beat neighbours Longhaugh 12-7.

Longhaugh came back strongly and scored two goals in quick succession to retake the lead at 3-2, with only 8 minutes on the clock. Both sides cancelled each other out for a few minutes before SSLM felt it was time for more goals. Three goals without reply as halftime approached meant that SSLM led 5-3 at the break.

ST.LUKE'S & ST.MATTHEW'S (BLACK / WHITE) IN THE DERBY AGAINST LONGHAUGH (YELLOW / BLUE)
The second half continued with goals at two-minute intervals, SSLM bagging the first two to go 7-3 up before Longhaugh scored the goal of the match with a cheeky lob over the keeper for 7-4, bringing applause from both sets of fans. Longhaugh were spurred on by this piece of skill and snatched another almost immediately, as SSLM saw their lead dwindle from 7-3 to 7-5. SSLM added another but Longhaugh countered a minute later, 8-6 now.
With 15 minutes left SSLM took control of the game and went into double figures with four goals and were heading for full points at 12-6. Longhaugh had the last word just before the final whistle with their 7th.
After their recent 10-10 draw with Claypotts Castle, at least this time St.Luke's & St.Matthew's achieved a positive result for reaching double figures. It seems if you want goals, SSLM is the place to go, in the last 3 games it has been 10-10, 5-10 and now 12-7 - it's a regular maths lesson for the players and spectators.

DOWNFIELD (WHITE) HAD THE BETTER OF THE FIRST HALF .....
Two minutes after the break it was all square when St.Clement's finished from close range, 1-1 (27m). The St.Clement's keeper was in good form and stopped the visitors taking the lead on a number of occasions. The game was end to end now and it was St.Clement's who scored next with a shot which slipped under the keeper's body, 2-1 (37m). However Downfield hit back with a surge up the field and good finish from the edge of the box, 2-2 (39m). St.Clement's regained the lead a minute later, when a cross from the right found the striker alone on the left of the penalty area and he shot home for 3-2 (40m). Downfield came back straight away and, after St.Clement's struggled several times to clear, Downfield put an end to the stramash with a fierce shot from just inside the box, 3-3 (42m). With extra-time looming St.Clement's scored the winner with 5 minutes left when a corner was volleyed in to the delight of the home fans, 4-3 (45m).
Another great advert for schools' football, St.Clement's now face a trip to Fintry or St.Mary's, Downfield book their place in the Banks Trophy.

ST.LUKE'S & ST.MATTHEW'S (RED / BLACK) v. CLAYPOTTS CASTLE (BLUE) IN THE POURING RAIN
The grass was a bit long but not enough to spoil the play, otherwise the pitch was in good condition despite all the rain. SSLM scored first but Claypotts soon equalised, and the game followed this pattern until Claypotts scored twice to go 4-3 up but SSLM hit back twice to be ahead at the interval.

ST.LUKE'S & ST.MATTHEW'S (RED / BLACK) ATTACK A CORNER v. CLAYPOTTS CASTLE (BLUE)
After the break the rain started to ease off and there was a comparative lull in the scoring, SSLM going 6-4 up, Claypotts pulling one back for 6-5 before SSLM seemed to take a grip on the game with two more goals to lead 8-5. At this point the referee said to the sideline, "8-5 and 12 to go." While everybody understood that there were 12 minutes left, he could have meant 12 goals still to be scored, and who would not stay around to see the best of 25 goals?

In extra time Claypotts scored their fourth goal in a row to go 9-8 up but SSLM equalised for 9-9 before the break. Again both teams traded further goals in the second period of extra time, Claypotts going 10-9 in front before SSLM levelled to send the game into a penalty shoot-out.
The old teleprinters would have enjoyed this final scoreline : St.Luke's & St.Matthew's 10 (TEN) Claypotts Castle 10 (TEN) aet.

And so to penalties :
SSLM scored first then Claypotts fired wide of the post. 1-0
SSLM hit the bar with their second and Claypotts scored. 1-1
Both teams scored their third penalty. 2-2
Now for sudden death :
SSLM hit a well-struck penalty but the Claypotts keeper got his body behind the ball for a good save.
Claypotts then scored to win the match 3-2 on penalties.
So the referee was correct - except the "12 to go" in the end did actually refer to the number of goals.
Claypotts Castle can now look forward to a home tie against Ardler or Craigowl. St.Luke's & St.Matthew's at least have the consolation of a place in the Banks Trophy at the end of the season.
Nobody in either team will forget this epic encounter in a hurry - a day when scoring ten goals was not quite enough for a win!

STAR GOALKEEPING DISPLAY IN SEASON OPENER
Thur 9 Sept - The Primary season kicked off in style with a highly entertaining game in Arab Trust Dee 4 Life Section C at Lochee Park.
Home team SS Peter & Paul ended up beating Craigiebarns 7-2 but the game was a lot closer than the score suggests.
The Paulies went ahead in the 11th minute after a quick break through the middle led to the ball being pushed left - it was a very acute angle but a good finish to produce the only goal of the half. However that does not tell the story - Craigiebarns had almost all the pressure and peppered the Paulies with shots from all over the place. But the SSPP keeper was in superb form, time and again tipping shots over the bar or round the post - he must have produced 4 or 5 world-class saves to keep his team in it, as Craigiebarns could have easily been 6-1 or 7-1 ahead at halftime, instead of trailing 1-0.
SS PETER & PAUL (YELLOW) ABOUT TO SHOOT FOR THE THIRD GOAL
As soon as the second half got under way Craigiebarns found themselves 2 down, as the Paulies hit a cross-shot onto the left post and the rebound was knocked home. Craigiebarns had another powerful shot following a corner but could not get back into the game and the Paulies took control. In the 32nd minute SSPP made it 3-0 following a fine solo run and shot from the edge of the box. Four minutes later it was 4-0 with another finish from an acute angle, soon after SSPP raced past the Craigiebarns defence and past the keeper and yet another acute angle finish from the left made it 5-0. Craigiebarns were wilting under the onslaught and a minute later a close-range finish made it 6-0 for SSPP. With 6 minutes left Craigiebarns finally got the better of the SSPP keeper with a solo run through the middle for a well-deserved consolation goal, 6-1. They were not content with just one goal and another solo run brought it back to 6-2, the keeper getting a hand to the shot but the ball bounced inside the post.
The home team finished off the scoring in the last minute with a solo effort down the left, 7-2, then handshakes all round.
Definitely a game of two halves, with man of the match the SSPP keeper who helped his team to 3 points with an outstanding display.

Finals week got off to a fantastic start with a 12-goal thriller between Glebelands and Craigiebarns in the Thomson Cup Final. With Craigiebarns winning the league match 5-4 earlier in the season and also knocking Glebelands out of the Junior Sports Cup in the 2nd Round with a 5-3 win, the red-and-whites probably started as favourites.
Playing up the slope, Glebelands knocked that theory on the head with a coolly taken goal almost from the kick-off, 1-0 (1m). Craigiebarns soon equalised with a right-foot shot into the bottom corner, 1-1 (6m) and then moved into the lead with a firm strike from outside the box, 1-2 (12m).
Five minutes later it was all level again as Glebelands finished off a good move up the left, 2-2 (17m).

GLEBELANDS CELEBRATE ONE OF THEIR SEVEN GOALS

GLEBELANDS (SKY / WHITE) CHALLENGE CRAIGIEBARNS (RED / WHITE) IN THE FIRST HALF
The second half kicked off and Glebelands struck again immediately, waltzing through the middle of the defence and beating the keeper, 4-2 (26m). Both teams had good opportunities, Glebelands hitting one well over the bar, Craigiebarns then forcing the Glebelands keeper to save low down.
Glebelands then scored two in quick succession to give them a four-goal lead - the first one was arguably goal of the match, a super strike from out on the left wing which rocketed into the far corner, 5-2 (36m), followed soon after by a run down the right and shot across the keeper, 6-2 (38m).

Any thoughts that the game was over were quickly dispelled when Glebelands had to clear off the line and Craigiebarns scored from a long-range effort, 6-3 (41m). A Craigiebarns free kick from the halfway line then hit the post. Time was running out but Craigiebarns set up a grandstand finish with another goal from a run through the centre, 6-4 (47m). Another shot ran past the post, and in the last minute Craigiebarns scored again with a side-foot past the keeper's left hand, 6-5 (50m). Craigiebarns pressed for an equaliser but their last attempt flew just over the bar. In time added on Glebelands finally put the result beyond doubt with a right-foot strike from distance, 7-5 (50+1m).

BURGESS CUP FINAL : Elliot Road - Mon 6th June, 7.00 FORTHILL 6 EASTERN 1
The Burgess Cup Final was retained by Forthill who turned in a powerful performance against Eastern. Forthill playing up the slope in the first half took the lead in the fifth minute and could have doubled the advantage but hit the bar, 1-0 (5m). Forthill did add to their score after a quarter of an hour, but the Eastern keeper will probably think he could have held on to it, 2-0 (15m). There was little he could do just before the interval when a shot from the left cannoned off the bar, and the rebound was headed in, 3-0 (22m).
Halftime : Forthill 3 Eastern 0
FORTHILL (NAVY) PREPARE TO SHOOT AGAINST EASTERN (WHITE / RED)
Eastern came back strongly after the break and won a corner. The corner was volleyed in at the near post to give Eastern some hope, 3-1 (26m). Not long after Eastern hit the bar, but Forthill fought their way back into the game and concluded a spell of pressure with another goal, 4-1 (35m). Two minutes later another Forthill goal finished the game as a contest, the Eastern defence putting in a great block, but the ball ran free to a Forthill striker who knocked it in, 5-1 (37m).

Forthill sent another shot over the bar, then wrapped up the scoring with a forceful run down the left, a cross from the bye-line and a thumping finish from close range, 6-1 (48m). A last attempt before the final whistle saw the Eastern keeper save at the post.

FORTHILL CELEBRATE WITH THE BURGESS CUP
LINTON CUP FINAL : Elliot Road - Wed 8th June, 6.00 ANCRUM ROAD 2 ST.MARY'S 3 aet
The Linton Cup Final was a game of two halves, or four halves if you want. The first half was rather like the weather at the start - dull, damp and needing some heat. Ancrum Road fired a shot over the bar, St.Mary's did likewise. Then Ancrum Road came closest with a shot off the post, and St.Mary's matched this with a cross-shot from wide on the right which temptingly ran across the goalmouth inches out, but nobody could nudge it in. And that was it for the first half, 0-0.

ANCRUM ROAD (ROYAL BLUE) ON THE ATTACK IN THE FIRST HALF AGAINST ST.MARY'S (SKY)
The rain stopped, the evening sun came out, and the game also brightened up considerably. Within two minutes of the restart St.Mary's had bundled the ball in to take the lead, 0-1 (27m). St.Mary's then nearly scored a solo goal from a run up the left but the shot bounced back off the bar. Ancrum Road hit a free kick just over the bar and produced a long-range effort which was expertly tipped over for a corner by the Ancrum Road keeper. Ancrum Road then hit an equaliser with 8 minutes left when the ball broke to a striker on the penalty spot who thumped his shot home, 1-1 (42m). In the last minute Ancrum Road grabbed the lead with a well-taken goal, good control and a firm finish and it looked like the game was over, 2-1 (50m).
But there was just enough time for St.Mary's to race up the park, fire in a shot which the keeper could not hold on to, and knock in the rebound, 2-2 (50m). Then the whistle blew...

ANCRUM ROAD THOUGHT THEY HAD WON IT IN THE LAST MINUTE .... BUT THERE WAS A STING IN THE TAIL
The drama of these two goals in the last minute meant that the game was heading for extra-time. Last year's man of the match Kieran Conway won the game two minutes into the first period of extra-time with a superb solo effort, gathering the ball just inside the half and beating four or five defenders as he slalomed through the centre before unleashing an unstoppable shot, 2-3 (52m). Ancrum Road replied with a free kick from far out which forced the St.Mary's keeper to kick clear. The game swung from end to end, but St.Mary's held on to retain the trophy. Brian Rice of St.Mary's won the Ross Kirk Man of the Match Trophy.

ROCK CUP ACTION BETWEEN ST.LUKE'S & ST.MATTHEW'S (STRIPES) AND SS PETER & PAUL (YELLOW)
SS Peter & Paul capitalised on some defensive hesitancy to increase their lead and a fierce shot from the left bounced off the bar and over the line. Though there were some eyebrows raised, the referee deemed the ball to have crossed the line. Some cool finishing from SSPP pushed the score up to 6-1, and Man of the Match Robbie Dolan in the SSLM goal pulled off some wonderful saves to keep the score down. SSLM nearly had the last word but their shot was a little too high and cleared the bar.
So SS Peter & Paul won the Fairtrade Football Rock Cup, and Robbie Dolan of St.Luke's & Matthew's collected the Man of the Match trophy presented by Mr.Marra.

St.Clement's and St.Fergus kicked off the first of three finals at Elliot Road on a beautiful sunny night at Elliot Road. The two teams each had a league win against one another under their belts, but it was St.Clement's who stormed into an early lead. Playing down the slope in the first half, St.Clement's looked determined to retain the Angus Trophy Centre Small Schools Cup and after a couple of early corners took the lead in the second minute, thumping in a loose ball from the edge of the box.

ST.CLEMENT'S (NAVY) ON THE ATTACK AGAINST ST.FERGUS (MAROON)
A well-placed chip from the edge of the box into the bottom left corner soon doubled the lead. St.Clement's added another two, taking advantage of defensive lapses, to go 4-0 up after 10 minutes. St.Fergus then came back into the game and created a couple of good chances, one saved by the keeper, the other going just wide of the post. Near halftime St.Fergus won possession deep in their own half and broke upfield to beat the keeper and get on the scoresheet.

ST.FERGUS SCORE THEIR FIRST GOAL JUST BEFORE HALFTIME
St.Fergus forced two great saves at the start of the second half, then St.Clement's had a couple of opportunities, hitting the bar and knocking the rebound over. St.Clement's then made their pressure count, taking advantage of a defensive mistake, followed by a crashing drive from out on the left. St.Fergus fought back but were again denied on several occasions by the keeper.

CAMERON CUP FINAL : Elliot Road - Fri 10th June, 6.30 CRAIGOWL 1 DOWNFIELD 1 (10-11 pens)
The second game of the evening was an epic encounter between Downfield and Craigowl in the Cameron Cup Final. Craigowl played down the slope in the first half and had the majority of the pressure but there were no clear-cut chances in the opening period. Midway through the half Craigowl had a couple of good chances but outstretched legs could not connect and the chances disappeared. Downfield who had been under pressure for most of the first half showed signs of what was to come with a late effort which the Craigowl keeper did well to keep out. But Craigowl countered with a header at the far post which the Downfield keeper saved.

CRAIGOWL (GREEN / BLACK) ATTACK IN THE FIRST HALF AGAINST DOWNFIELD (WHITE)
Downfield grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck after the break and created several opportunities which kept the Craigowl keeper busy. Craigowl replied with a free kick from inside the halfway line which went over the bar. Another Downfield effort had the keeper saving with his feet, but the chances were now coming thick and fast. The deadlock was finally broken halfway through the second period when a Downfield shot was only parried by the keeper, and the loose ball was turned in at the far post, 0-1 (37m).

Downfield did have another opportunity but the keeper saved, then it was Craigowl who came back into the game in the latter stages. Five minutes from time a Craigowl free kick was only palmed out by the Downfield keeper and the loose ball was thumped into the roof of the net for the equaliser, 1-1 (45m).
CRAIGOWL GRAB A LATE EQUALISER IN THE CAMERON CUP FINAL
Craigowl mounted a late challenge for the winner but defences held firm, so it was on to penalties. Downfield kicked off the shoot-out and all the first penalties were tucked away comfortably so it was on to sudden death. This turned out to take some time as the penalties were giving the keepers little chance. Some players were taking their second penalty of the night. With the shoot-out score at 11-10 Craigowl hit the bar and Downfield were able to celebrate.

JUNIOR SPORTS CUP FINAL : Elliot Road - Fri 10th June, 7.50 CRAIGIEBARNS 1 FORTHILL 0
The final game of the night kicked off a little late because of the mammoth penalty shoot-out in the Cameron Cup Final. Craigiebarns and Forthill had both played in their section cup finals on Monday night, so Forthill were looking to double their tally while Craigiebarns were aiming to overcome their disappointment in losing 7-5 to Glebelands. Both teams served up an entertaining and hard-fought first half but there were not many direct efforts on goal, so at halftime it was Craigiebarns 0 Forthill 0.

CRAIGIEBARNS (RED / WHITE) v. FORTHILL (SKY / NAVY) IN THE JUNIOR SPORTS CUP FINAL
Craigiebarns pressed hard after the break and were only denied by three good saves from the Forthill keeper, and a shot just wide of the post. Forthill replied with a shot over the bar. The key moment came ten minutes from time when Kyle Anderson from Craigiebarns broke through the middle and, despite the attentions of several Forthill defenders, steered the ball low past the diving keeper's left hand into the corner of the net, 1-0 (40m).
CRAIGIEBARNS CELEBRATE SCORING THE ONLY GOAL
Forthill tried to score an immediate equaliser but the shot was too high. The last ten minutes were end to end, as Craigiebarns strove to put the result beyond doubt and Forthill attempted to level. The best chance probably fell to Forthill two minutes from the end with a mazy run into the heart of the defence but Craigiebarns were able to produce a last-ditch clearance to avert the danger. The final whistle soon went to the delight of the Craigiebarns players and supporters.

JOY UNCONFINED AS THE FINAL WHISTLE GOES
KYLE ANDERSON (CENTRE) SCORED THE ONLY GOAL TO GIVE CRAIGIEBARNS THEIR FIRST EVER JUNIOR SPORTS CUP WIN
And so an excellent Finals Week came to a close with honours shared. Forthill took the runners-up medals tonight but at least had the Burgess Cup win on Monday to look back on and the Section D League title still to play for. Craigiebarns who had come off second-best in the 12-goal thriller with Glebelands on Monday were overjoyed with the single goal tonight, which gave them their first ever win in the Junior Sports Cup. Forthill's Adam Brown was chosen as the Man of the Match and received the Bill Ferrier Memorial Trophy from DSFA President Mr.Lowden, who then presented both teams with medals and handed over the Junior Sports Cup to Craigiebarns.
